Scheduling Temporary Delivery Stops

posted Aug 3, 2013, 5:14 PM by mow colesville

From: Colesville Meals on Wheels

To:  All Clients

Date:  July 31, 2013

IMPORTANT:

The hospital is changing its kitchen scheduling in order to provide you with more healthy food.  This change will make the food preparation process more efficient and timely.  In order for this to work, starting on Monday August 5, 2013, you will need to advise the office of your absence for more than one day by 9:30 am the day before.  For example, if you plan to be away for 2 or more days starting on a Tuesday, you will need to call the office and notify them by Monday morning at 9:30 am.  Please make sure that anyone in your family or group of friends who help you make appointments and reservations is informed of this change so that they will understand if they wish to stop your meals for you.

Again, this change is necessary due to the changes in the kitchen scheduling. We hope that it will not be an inconvenience.

More on Meal Temperatures

posted Jul 11, 2012, 3:13 PM by mow colesville   [ updated Jul 11, 2012, 3:15 PM ]

Dear Clients,   June 4,2012

We at Meals on Wheels are concerned about your welfare in whatever
we do. Lately, we have been concerned about the requirements of the
State of Maryland and Montgomery County that hot and cold meals are
at certain temperatures to be healthful to you. We know that as we have
been working with the vendor, it has been disconcerting to you that the
meals have been hot, then cold and now frozen. We also know that this
has been hard for you to adapt to and that it is generally unsatisfactory
for you. However, right now the dinner meal is at an acceptable
temperature for the government agencies.

We think that delivering the mealsfrozen for some of you, actually puts
you in harm‘s way more than delivering a hot meal that isn’t really hot
enough. Leaving the frozen meal out to thaw and warm to room
temperature is unhealthful. If there is something that we can do to help
you heat the meal, please let us know.

We feel the meals should be hot when delivered to you and we will try
to find a way to do that and also comply with the health department. But
for now we must comply with the health department. We hope this
doesn’t inconvenience you too much.

Meal Temperatures

posted Mar 21, 2012, 3:01 PM by mow colesville

Dear Clients,

Our meal provider has started to prepare your dinner meal so that it is refrigerated instead of hot.  The reason for this is to be able to maintain it at a healthful temperature until it reaches you.  To heat this meal:

In the microwave:

  1. With plastic on, heat on high 1:30
  2. Peel off plastic and stir, heat another 1:30

In conventional oven:

  1. Peel off plastic
  2. With oven at 350 degrees heat for 30 to 40 minutes

We will be monitoring the temperatures and your reactions to this new preparation for two weeks.  Please let us know how you feel about this change.

We are sorry for any inconvenience.

Hot Meal Containers

posted Oct 14, 2011, 11:43 AM by mow colesville

August 22, 2011

We have had questions regarding the new hot meal containers.  They can be heated in the microwave. They can also be heated  ln a regular oven set No Higher than 350 degrees Fahrenheit.  We are hoping these new containers will keep the food hotter  and eliminate spills.  Meals can also be frozen as delivered.

We also need to remind everyone that when you cancel meals for two or more days, you must call the Office to have delivery start again. You can call and speak to someone in the office or leave a message anytime before 9:45 AM, the day you want to restart.

Meal Cancellation Policy

April 18, 2011

To Our Clients --

As you know, we cannot cancel meals for just one day.  However,  for two or more consecutive days, we can cancel meals.  We do have a procedure which we must use and it is as follows --

Should you need to cancel meals for two or more consecutive days, you must do so before 9:30AM on the first day of cancellation.

To resume meal service, YOU MUST CALL THE OFFICE NO LATER THAN 9:30AM ON THE DAY YOU WANT SERVICE TO RESUME.  We will not resume service unless we have received a call from you.

We have an answering machine which is monitored 24hours a day for you to leave us a message.

Hopefully this procedure will not cause you any problems.  Thank you for working with us.
